Bursitis
Bursae act like cushions between bones and soft tissue. They have a small amount of lubricating fluid that allows smooth movement of the skin over the bone. Once the bursae becomes irritated it becomes inflamed, more fluid will accumulate and bursitis will develop. Bursitis is usually caused by a previous injury, such as a torn ligament or tendon, trauma (hard blow) or prolonged pressure. There is usually swelling pain and restricted motion. If left untreated bone could grow causing disability.
Massage Therapy is beneficial because it will reduce the pain caused by the inflamed bursae. Myofascial release therapy will release or loosen the tightness in the fascia, the protective layer covering bones, muscles and joints, using pressure. This release will allow for more movement and comfort doing daily activities.
