 Registered Massage Therapy:

The practice of Massage therapy is the assessment of the soft tissue and joints of the body and the treatment and prevention of physical dysfunction and pain of the soft tissue and joints by manipulation to develop, maintain, rehabilitate or augment physical function, or relieve pain.

Massage Therapy is a regulated health care profession governed by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario (CMTO). Only members of the CMTO are permitted to use the title Massage Therapist (MT) or Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). Massage Therapists have completed 2-3 years of health science, therapeutic Massage and remedial exercise training.

Your Massage Therapist must obtain your consent to work on any part of your body, regardless of whether you are fully clothed, or fully or partially covered with sheets or blankets. Your privacy will always be respected, and you may withdraw your consent for treatment at any time. The Massage Therapist will work with your level of pain tolerance during the treatment, and the treatment can be stopped at any time should the treatment become uncomfortable.

Unfortunately the cost of Massage Therapy is not covered by OHIP, however many private insurance companies cover the cost of treatment from a Massage Therapist as part of their extended health care plans. Your treatments might also be covered if you have been involved in a work place injury or a car accident. To find out if yours does consult your policy. We are able to invoice certain providers directly at no cost to you, please ask us for details.

Osteopathy:

Osteopathy is a natural medicine that focuses on restoring proper movement and function to the entire body by treating the causes of pain and imbalance. Osteopaths consider the whole person rather than focus on the symptoms; we look for the underlying causes of dysfunction such as physical injury, poor posture and emotional stress. Osteopaths use a highly refined sense of touch to identify alterations of position, mobility and vitality in the body. We then use a variety of very safe, gentle manual techniques to release the physical strains in the tissue and normalize body mechanics. Osteopathic treatment is effective in treating chronic pain, repetitive strain injuries (carpal tunnel, tendinitis, plantar fascitis) headaches, ear infections, sinus congestion, asthma, bronchitis, digestive difficulties (bloating, constipation), pregnancy difficulties (back pain, digestive upset, swelling)infants (colic, spitting up, birth trauma, latching problems) etc.  The ultimate goal is to re-establish harmonious relationships amongst your body’s systems (musculo-skeletal, respiratory, cardiovascular, digestive, reproductive, nervous) When all of the body’s components are in balance, a person is complete and in total health. Esalen Deep Tissue Massage:

This technique is known for it’s long, integrating strokes, creating an experience of deep relaxation supporting the natural ability of body and mind to self-heal.

Hot Stone Massage:

Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated or cooled smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body.

The stones are immersed in water and heated in an electric heating device until they are within a certain temperature range. The stones may be placed at specific points on the back, in the palms of the hand, or between the toes.

The heat from the stones warms and relaxes muscles as well as improves circulation and calms the nervous system.
