Sprains and Strains
A sprain occurs in ligaments, they often swell rapidly and are painful. The more pain and swelling the greater to injury. As the ligaments stabilize joints when they are sprained there can be a varying degree of difficulty with walking.
A strain occurs in muscles and tendons, often the result of overstretching and overworking. There can be stiffness, pain, swelling, discoloration and/or bruising. Usually happens during sports but can happen doing everyday tasks
Massage therapy can be beneficial to strains and sprains because it can increase mobility in the joint where the injury occurred, reduced pain and swelling, reduce the tension from the injury and increse the rate of healing of the sprain of strain.
